The Self-Murderer

Edmund Jones in his book, A Relation of the Apparitions of Spirits published in 1780, tells of a Mr Jeremiah James who saw the ghost of his neighbour, John Jenkins. His attention was drawn by the sound of a woman screaming, and on looking out of his window he saw the body of Jenkins hanging in the hayloft, having been found by his poor sister.

The ghost of Jenkins was coming from the hayloft about very moment, but "violently turning upwards and downwards topsy-turvy"! Jones states that this was because Jenkins was a "self murderer" and going to Hell.
